Shangri-La

I’m very happy to share my new album, Shangri-La.

Shangri-La is an instrumental album which combines elements of world music — percussion from around the world and Chinese string instruments — with ambient and atmospheric keys and beats.

Without words, it tells story of a quest for a mythical realm, which is a symbol for the timeless discovery of our true Self.

I hope you enjoy this music, and if you are inspired to use it in a creative project of your own, you can find out more about commercial licensing here.

Fragments of Light

Fragments of Light was conceived of as a collection of song sketches, fragments rather than fully formed pieces, and this lightness was a refreshing approach to the creative process. Some of these songs are now evolving into more fleshed out pieces with vocals and a proper song structure.

This album is largely woven out of samples and textures, evocative and with a lo-fi, downtempo vibe. I had a lot of fun making it and I hope you enjoy it as well.

All of the songs on Fragments of Light are available for use in non-commercial projects and can be downloaded from the SoundCloud embed above. For any commercial use, please visit my page on commercial licensing.

The Truth Within

Don’t worry about saving these songs!
And if one of our instruments breaks,
it doesn’t matter.

We have fallen into the place
where everything is music.

The strumming and the flute notes
rise into the atmosphere,
and even if the whole world’s harp
should burn up, there will still be
hidden instruments playing.

So the candle flickers and goes out.
We have a piece of flint, and a spark.

This singing art is sea foam.
The graceful movements come from a pearl
somewhere on the ocean floor.

Poems reach up like spindrift and the edge
of driftwood along the beach, wanting!

They derive
from a slow and powerful root
that we can’t see.

Stop the words now.
Open the window in the center of your chest,
and let the spirit fly in and out.

Mystic Gate: Songs for the Hidden Peak

Mystic Gate: Songs for the Hidden Peak was conceived as a fundraising album for the Hidden Peak teahouse in Santa Cruz, California. That beautiful little haven of peace is where I fell in love with tea and met my future wife back in 2013.

Hidden Peak Teahouse and owner, David Wright

When some members of the Santa Cruz tea community decided to have a fundraiser to help the teahouse, which functions as a community and spiritual hub, stay afloat, I was inspired to write these songs and donate any proceeds from the album to the teahouse. While it was only a modest contribution, this album continues to be dedicated to the teahouse and these songs have found their way into many creative projects and YouTube videos.

The title, Mystic Gate, conjures up all those people, places, and events which have the power and timing to elevate our consciousness to a higher level, opening up not just new experiences for us, but new ways of being and experiencing life, ourselves and others.

If I could have a highest wish for this album, it would be that it could be your Mystic Gate back into your own innermost being.

With love,

Siddhartha

Rasa Lila

Rasa Lila was actually inspired by the beautiful album artwork by my dear friend, Sky. The rasa lila is the dance of ecstatic love between Krishna and his gopis. Just as Krishna knows the inner heart of each of his devotees, so too life is dancing with each one of us, and giving us not just the experiences we will enjoy and appreciate, but the experiences which we need to grow in wisdom and in deeper communion with the source of life itself.

Each of these songs was actually inspired by a different dear friend in my life, and somehow I feel they are very present in this album as well.

It is also an album of love for the culture and people of India. May the spiritual wealth of India continue to expand, deepen, and enrich the lives of people all over the world.

Thank you and may you be blessed.

Rainbow Bridge

Rainbow Bridge is an album that emerged on the heels of a meditation retreat, and carries a meditative feeling joined with a joyful, uplifting and at times blissful mood.

The rainbow bridge is a beautiful image and metaphor with a few connotations — on the one hand it is the bridge which is shown in Buddhist thangkas (religious art) leading the disciples of the Buddha off the wheel of Samsara, into Nirvana. It is also the bridge which pets take to get to Heaven. On top of that, it is a popular ‘map’ in the Mario Kart racing video game. This, I feel, sums up the album pretty well — meditative, playful, with electronic vibes reminiscent of old-school video games.

I had a lot of fun making it, and hope you enjoy!

Constellations

This is a bit of a nostalgic album, as each song on this album is actually dedicated to / inspired by an old friendship. At the same time, all of the songs are in 3/4 time as the rhythms are based on the hexagrams of the I Ching and Gene Keys.

There is therefore a subtle ‘magical intention’ woven into this music, the healing of old relationships, and the awakening to new and higher possibilities of existence. ‘Lightstream’ has been a popular soundtrack choice in some very diverse creative projects. ‘Constellations’ is my personal favorite, a hypnotic trip down the rabbit hole of sound!

For your enjoyment.

Life, the Journey of Remembering

Life, the Journey of Remembering is a very bubbly album of playful electronica, inspired in part by the endlessly repeating patterns of DNA, the minimalism of Steve Reich, and the archetypal patterns described in the Gene Keys.

Freedom

Freedom is one of my earlier albums, and is quite meandering and meditative in mood. A few of the songs are based on haikus, and ‘Magic of Bamboo’ is woven from the modulated sound of the shakuhachi flute.

7 Verses

7 Verses is an autumnal album, woven mostly out of samples from around the world, these songs came together over many cups of tea out of a simple delight in musical exploration.

All of the songs on 7 Verses are available for use in non-commercial projects and can be downloaded from the SoundCloud embed above. For any commercial use, please visit my page on commercial licensing.

I hope you enjoy these meandering sonic journeys.
